I’d like to share some brand identity examples — three case studies of small business branding that show the difference between just having a logo, and having a full graphic brand identity.
Why would you hire a professional logo designer, rather than working on something yourself, particularly if you’re an artist or a designer? Brand identity requires an intimate knowledge of customer psychology, graphic design, typography, color theory, and sometimes illustration. Identity design is a specialty that is different than other types of graphic design. It is also hard sometimes to step far enough outside your company mentally so that you can view it with fresh and impartial eyes.
So that you can see the thought that we put into logo and brand identity design, I’ve put together a series of videos for you.
These videos show why branding is a big deal, and are also a fun peek at how we think about branding for shop owners. I interviewed three Aeolidia designers in three video presentations where we walk step by step through:
- The logo itself: how we modify or create typefaces for a unique logo
- Alternate logos and brand marks: what they’re for, and what we include
- Typography: what makes different fonts work well together, and how we choose them
- Colors: psychology and mood behind putting a color scheme together
- Patterns: what they’re used for and how we make them cohesive
- Print materials, packaging, digital materials, in-store experience, and website graphics: how we pull it all together
Each page also includes a quick before & after of the logo redesign, which I know everyone loves!

Logo and brand identity example videos
Go behind the scenes with Aeolidia designer Christine Castro Hughes to discover hidden rainbows, sprinkles of confetti, and find out how colors and fonts were chosen for Benzie Design, a wool felt shop. This is the first logo that we’ve ever seen in an embroidered version, and we think you’ll like it!
Whispering Willow is a handmade bath and body shop, and they wanted to elevate their brand. Designer Jess Levitz takes us behind the scenes of creating patterns, elements, and even a hand drawn typeface.
Sugar + Spruce
The mother and daughter team at Sugar + Spruce redecorated their brick and mortar store from top to bottom with their new colors and patterns. Designer Ann Parker takes us behind the scenes of a project that involves a mermaid!
Let’s do this for your business!
Please take a look at these brand identity examples, and maybe dream a little for your brand. Designing a logo and then extending it out to a full brand identity is hard for a small business owner to do on their own (unless they’re also a brand designer), so don’t hesitate to hire a professional for this.
